Yarr, welcome to the Zoo Crew

In the world of The Meander; many factions and communities are spread across sparse lands separated by a wide and endless ocean. The world is strange and whimsical - from chain-pub/inn/taverns that are identical in every town- to the strange and sinister powers of a large ocean.

Our story follows the crew of The Moonage Daydream; a crew of oddities and unusual characters under the authority of Captain Redd, who just happened to be a giant fire ant. This is all my work depicting the characters.

Kai later turned out to be a twist villain; the deadly Captain Silver.

But great storytelling!

The Crew

The original crew comprised of four members, each with their own distinct personalities.

Captain Redd; a giant ant and somewhat incompetent man whose thirst for battle and conflict kept his drive going forwards.

Vee; a mechanical ex-dancer with a cold, calculating personality and all the precision and logic of a machine. She was incredibly loyal to Redd.

Nix; a sneaky cat-person with unmatched dexterity and poise but just as deadly as one could imagine.

And Gill; a sea elf with a relaxed and cheerful personality who just wanted to do some goddamn fishing.

The crew later met Kai, a friendly dog-person with an overexcited and eager personality whose speed was unmatched.

New Party

After the characters were treated to a surprise villain; the characters all got new designs to suit them for the next arc - in addition to Clover, the newest member of the crew to replace Kai. Clover was a large, sleepy and calm force of good for the party with a love of animals.

Final Arc

The game had multiple arcs that spanned different locations and storylines; from exploring the map to save Kai's people, attending the pirate festival 'Plunderbuss' on an island shaped like a hand and visiting Hell. But in honour of the game's last arc and its cartoonish nature - I created a rubberhose-inspired title card and art piece of the cast.

It was deemed "To Hell and Back" - completing the series by looping it back to its first adventure.

Vee

Vee was my character who I designed and spent a lot of time developing. As such, she has significantly more art and design than the rest of the cast.

Vee's concept was that she was part of a series of mechanical dancers; created into slavery that she broke away from in order to join the crew. Putting her dancing abilities to practise, she became a ballet-dancing, dual-rapier-wielding nightmare who was loyal to Captain Redd.

Number 5

As Vee was party of a series; her design would establish what the rest of her 'sisters' would look like; one of whom would eventually play into the plot.

They were all almost identical, wearing masks that would define who they were with a Roman numeral over their right eye. When Vee broke away, she destroyed a chunk of her mask that identified her.

When Vee got redesigned - the plan was for her to attempt to figure out more about her own identity; acquiring a new mask and a new look that reflected her rather than what she believed she should appear as.

Vee also received an animated character HUD

Click on her to see that in action.

Seven

Alongside the main campaign; there was a shorter adventure that included Seven as one of the characters whom I played.

Unlike Vee, who was Fifth of the line - Seven was of course, Seventh. She was designed to be the opposite to Vee in every way - she was colourful and bright with a cheerful attitude. But unlike Vee who had something of a heart and love for her crew - Seven was a sinister monster who would stop at nothing to find Vee and kill her for her transgressions against her master.

Cute Seven Pose

I wanted to emphasise that, contrary to Vee - Seven was bendy, flexible, less precise but physically stronger. She carried around a cartoonish squeaky hammer to contrast the dual-wielding rapiers carried by Vee.
